When we think of cocktails, we think of drinks on a hot summer day, be it mojito, Pina Coladas, or the Cosmopolitan. However, cocktails are way more than just a summer delight and there are cocktails to warm up your winter nights as well. Let’s have a look at some of the best cocktail recipes that will comfort you on cold winter nights and can be your perfect companion on holiday get-togethers.
You don’t have to precisely measure the ingredients; simply make sure they are in the same proportion as in the recipe.
Ginger Thyme Blood Orange Sparkler
This drink provides a healthy winter drinking option. The drink absorbs qualities of ginger and thyme and The Bai used in it contains antioxidants.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 fl. oz. of gin
- 0.5 fl. oz. of ginger liqueur
- 0.5 fl. oz. of lemon juice
- 0.25 fl. oz. of honey syrup (you can make this by mixing two parts of honey with one part of water)
Steps:
Pour all these ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake well for about 15 to 20 seconds until all the liquids mix well. Take a glass and fill it with ice and then strain your drink into it. Top it with 3 fl. oz. of Bai Bubbles Jamaica Blood Orange. You can use an orange slice and thyme for garnishing your drink.
Winter Spiced Old Fashioned
This is an ideal drink for cold winter nights. It is spiced up with cinnamon and cardamom to revamp the vintage delight.
Ingredients:
- 0.5 fl. oz. of spiced winter simple syrup (instructions for making it are below)
- 2 fl. oz. of bourbon
- 2 dashes of orange bitters
- 2 dashes of aromatic bitters
- cardamom stick (for garnish)
Steps:
This is essentially a stirred drink and not shaken due to the presence of spices. Stir well all the ingredients in a cocktail jar before double straining it into your cocktail glass. Garnish your drink with a cardamom stick. You can also use orange wedges for garnishing.
Instead of using the bitters, you can muddle orange wedges and cherries in your glass and simply mix your winter spice syrup and bourbon with the same garnish.
To make a spiced winter simple syrup, you need to mix a cup of sugar and water each with 3 cardamom pods and a cinnamon stick and simmer them on a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil and allow it to cool for 30 minutes. Then strain the extra spice out of the mixture and let it chill for around an hour.
Gift Giver
The gift-giver is another holiday drink made with gin and cranberry.
Ingredients:
- 0.75 fl. oz. of cranberry syrup (instructions for making it are below)
- 0.75 fl. oz. of fresh lime juice
- 2 fl. oz. of gin (preferably Monkey 47)
Steps:
Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker and give it a good shake for about 7-10 seconds. Strain the drink into an ice-filled glass. Top your drink with pear cider and you can use slices of pear or a lemon wedge or wheel as a garnish.
To make cranberry syrup, you have to stir unsweetened cranberry juice with white sugar in equal parts until it is completely dissolved. You can store this for up to 3 weeks in an airtight container.
Time Regained
This is an exotic drink that is perfect for special occasions. Although some find it complicated, here is an easy recipe for the same.
Ingredients:
- 0.25 fl. oz. of jasmine tea syrup (instructions for making it are below)
- 2 fl. oz. of blended scotch
- 0.75 fl. oz. of dry vermouth
- 0.5 fl. oz. of pisco
Steps:
Pour all the ingredients into a mixing glass and stir well. Pour the drink into your glass and garnish with lemon wedges.
To make jasmine tea syrup, heat 6 fl. oz. of hot water in a container. Add 3 level tbsp of loose jasmine tea and steep for 5 minutes. Then strain the mixture in another container and mix with an equal amount of sugar.
The Electric Cosmo
This is a version of the Cosmopolitan adapted for winters and holidays. This is a Cointreau-based drink blended with cranberry flavors.
Ingredients:
- 2 fl. oz. of infused vodka (instructions for making it are below)
- 0.75 fl. oz. of Cointreau
- 0.75 fl. oz. of fresh lime juice
- 0.25 fl. oz. of cranberry juice
Steps:
Throw all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake it for around 10-15 seconds until all the flavors combine. Then strain the drink in a cocktail glass of your choice: coupe or martini. You can use lemon wedges to garnish your drink.
To make infused vodka, add one scoop of dried butterfly pea flower to it and let it rest for an hour or so.
Garland
This is a wine-based red drink resembling the Bloody Mary. It is one of the easier winter cocktails to make, provided you have the Cranberry Shrub.
Ingredients:
- 1.25 fl. oz. of vodka
- 0.5 oz. of Cranberry Shrub (instructions for making it are below)
- 0.75 fl. oz. of lime
- 1 fl. oz. of sparkling wine
- a rosemary sprig
Steps:
Add all ingredients barring the sparkling wine in a cocktail shaker and strain the drink in a martini glass after giving it a good 10-second shake. Top the drink with sparkling wine and garnish it with a rosemary sprig.
To make Cranberry Shrub, mix water, vinegar and sugar in a pan over medium heat. Toss in cardamom pods, cranberries, allspice berries, and a cinnamon stick. Bring the entire mix to a simmer, stir and cover for 5 to 10 minutes. The cranberries will start popping. Stir once more and simmer for 10–15 minutes longer, until the cranberries have dissolved. Let cool, remove pulp, strain and refrigerate.
Angry Jolly Juice
This is a tea-based drink that is built around rum and cranberry. Unlike other cocktails, this is served hot.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cranberry juice.
- 0.5 cup of spiced rum (you can also use brandy)
- 0.5 cup of light brown sugar
- 1.5 cups of Angry Orchard
- 2 cups of water
- 3 cups of chai tea
Steps:
Heat water in a pan until it comes to a boil. Reduce the heat before adding bags of chai tea. Let the water absorb the flavor for about 2-3 minutes before removing the tea bags. Then add the remaining ingredients and let the mixture simmer on medium heat for about 3 minutes. Serve hot after garnishing with a lemon slice.
